Google Lively

So Google Lively — a virtual, web-based environment, similar to Second Life — nearly passed me by. I heard of it this morning from a colleague and surprisingly not from my Google Reader in which I subscribe to many feeds that cover tech news.
Looks like it was launched July 8, 2008. I haven’t downloaded it yet and not sure if I will because it’s Windows only. Also, I once dabbled in Second Life but quickly became disillusioned.
Guess I should try Lively before saying this, but there appears no reason why Lively would be any better.
Update: Farhad Manjoo wrote an article for Slate about Lively. He claims it is even lamer than Second Life. The piece is podcast below:
