iPhone Card Counting Apps

February 16, 2009 – 1:11 pm

I love how the following snip from “Ahead of the Curve” — an tech blog of sorts from ABC News — about an iPhone card counting app has no quotes and no information on the particular application(s) being used:

Nevada gambling regulators have warned casinos in the state about a card-counting program that works on Apple Inc.’s iPhone and iPod Touch that illegally helps players beat the house in blackjack.

Card counting itself is not illegal under Nevada gambling laws, but it is considered a felony to use devices to help count cards.

While I offer no quotes backing this story originating from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, I did do a quick iTunes app store search for “card count.”  See some of the screen shots and get links to some of these “card counting” applications after the jump:

A Blackjack Card Counter (iTunes link)

Card Counting Practice (iTunes link)

So the application referred to in the story above could possibly be any one of these.  If this is potentially illegal I’m surprised Apple allows anything like this in their store.  May just be a matter of time before they find out.
