This IM started off with “B” (the name has been changed to protect our stupidity) asking me to do something.  Being compliant, I replied:

Looks like Twitter is down again for database maintenance.  They have come up with this humdinger of a “be right back” image.  I have yet to scope the “failwhale” recently.

Last Friday I clicked on Twitter>>Find people>>Search, typed in a name and hit enter. And today it says the same thing it did then:

Thanks for your patience while we work to restore it.

And there is an image of a bird staring down a bug.  What happened to the fail whale?  Maybe the whale is reserved for main Twitter outages.

If spammers can spam it, they are going to spam it.  So it goes with Twitter.  I’m sure many already deal with this, but today is the first I’ve seen of it as three or four nonsensical Twitter accounts have started to “follow” me, thus resulting in an email notification.  Death to all spammers.

Considering following someone on The Twitter?  Check out Follow Cost.  This snappy tool asks: “How annoying will it be to follow blank on Twitter?”  Blank is where you type in who you are pondering to follow on The Twitter and Follow Cost will then spit out the average updates per day and the average updates per day of said person’s last 100 tweets.

Naturally this newfangled thingamabob is so popular, it was unable to compute earlier today.

Damn you Twitter.  You are always coming up with blog worthy stuff.  This time it is some spiffy election page.  It basically a big filter to show only election related tweets, you know, tweets with the candidates and/or VP candidates names in them.  And the interface is slick because it auto updates.

Of course you can now search Twitter for any topic of your liking.

What do you know, Twitter issues. When I try going to twitter it says:

Authorization Required

This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn’t understand how to supply the credentials required.

12Seconds.tv launched in late July with a Twitter-like purpose.  Let others know where you are and what you’re doing, but 12Seconds does it with video — up to 12 seconds worth at a time.

One point ABC News makes in its write up about 12Seconds: the ability to scan large amounts of information fairly rapidly is an obvious drawback of 12seconds compaired to Twitter.
